Mindfulness-Based Urban Retreat

MBTASweden

Eligibility for teacher training in MBSR, MBCT & MSC

You live at home or arrange your own accommodation. The intention for this urban retreat is to blend more into your everyday life. During the day we practice together led by the two teachers and in the evening the challenge is to lead yourself in your everyday environment, perhaps in relation to family and others and supported by online practice. The intention is to be in silence for five days. Being in silence also at home is a prerequisite for the retreat to be eligible for teacher training in MBSR, MBCT and MSC.

Mindfulness practice is an invitation to slow down and shift from doing-mode to being-mode. Allowing yourself to be in a place without pressure supported by the guidance of the teachers and the presence of the group. Together we will explore how to rest in the very nature of your being, in what is sometimes called the natural state, original mind, pure awareness, no mind, or simply emptiness. Our assumption is that fulfilment and mental peace is available to you in every moment and that meditation is a way to discover this essential nature of your mind and heart.

Dwelling deep within our heart, and within the hearts of all beings without exception, is an inexhaustible source of love and wisdom. And the ultimate purpose of all spiritual practices, whether they are called Buddhist or not, is to uncover and make contact with this essentially pure nature – Lama Yeshe

The Buddhist teachings start off the practice of loving-kindness by focusing first upon ourselves. The Buddha declared, whoever loves himself will never harm another. The capacity of listening to others depends on the capacity to listen to oneself. Only when we learn to listen to our needs and our suffering, then we are able to learn to accept our selves. We want to go home but sometimes we are afraid to go home because we can touch a pain, a fear inside. We have to learn to go home with loving kindness and with small steps.

Schedule:
09.00 – 12.00 meditation
12.00 – 14.00 lunch and own time
14.00 – 17.00 meditation
17.00 – 09.00 silence continues at home
19.00 – 20.30 online meditation from your home or hotel

Is this a retreat for you?

This retreat welcomes people with meditation experience, for instance graduates from the MBSR, MBCT, MSC or other similar programs and experiences. You will be introduced to simple methods to be more at ease with your feelings and disturbing thoughts. We are exploring ways to be more relaxed with the challenges of stress, fear, sadness and insecurity. The emphasis is on how to bring that compassionate space into our daily life and our relationships. There will be periods of shared silence, guided meditations, short lectures, dialogs and simple mindful movement. We will help you to establish a mindfulness practice which suits your lifestyle without becoming an extra burden.

About the venue

This is how Per Anders Fogelström describes the place.

Fjällgatan is today the most beautiful street in this city. An old-fashioned narrow street that stretches along the mountain edge, with retained cobblestones closest to the house walls and with lanterns that extend from the walls of the houses. Then the street suddenly opens up and gives a fantastic view of the city and the water.
